Order in the life of a business is the standards, procedures, and systems that create repeatable efficiency (scoreboards, SOP’s,
A life with order is consistent and stable.
An organization with order is dependable and scalable.
As a leader, part of your role is to subdue chaos into order in your organization.
Chaos
Chaos is the sense of uncertainty, creativity, and ambiguity that creates growth.
Chaos in the life of an individual is represented by the areas in which you courageously venture into the unknown (solitude, adventure, new project, risk, new relationship)
Chaos in the life of a business is any work related to the creative future of the enterprise (strategic planning, vision casting, new projects, risk, BHAGs)
A life with chaos can be creative, fresh, and often fun.
An organization with chaos can be engaging and entrepreneurial.
As a leader, part of your role is to strategically introduce chaos into your life and the organization.
The Relationship
Are you order, are you chaos, or are you the force that mediates between the two?
The impact-driven leader does not avoid the tension between order and chaos. The impact-driven leader wrestles with it.
The day that your life ONLY has order is the day you become complacent.
The day your life only has chaos is the day you become inconsistent.
