Five steps that you have to adopt and apply if you're going to maximize counseling: 1.     Buy in a wholeheartedly ·      You have to believe this is a worthwhile endeavor  ·      Your outcome will rarely exceed your outlook Why you should seek out counsel: 1.    People depend on you.  2.    It feels better when you pay someone to listen.  3.    You are capable of being an idiot.  4.    View counseling as a deposit for an impending crisis.  2.    Find the right person  ·      Shared source of truth  ·      Willingness to sit in awkwardness ·      You can trust them  3.    Have guts to be transparent  ·      Being transparent helps you live a life of balance, integrity, and constant growth ·      Growth and comfort do not coexist  ·      What’s the most uncomfortable thing? 4.     Play the role of narrator  ·      It's not helpful if it stays in your head/heart ·      Five core emotions: Anger, Sadness, Gladness, Fear, Shame 5.     Reflect, prepare, and commit  ·      Reflect: Take 10 minutes to reflect and write down, then share with 1 person  ·      Prepare: Most people don’t get what they want because they haven’t identified it ·      Commit: “Commitment is when you fall in love with something so much, that you put structure around it for the times when you no longer feel in love with it.” -David Brooks  Our whole team is rooting for you.
